Security systems fail quietly

Nothing announces itself. A camera lens hazes over with salt and dust until the picture is a smear. A hard drive fills or fails and the recorder keeps its light on while saving nothing. An alarm battery ages until it will not hold the panel up through a power cut. A firmware bug drops the remote connection and nobody notices because nobody looked.

The day you find out is the day it matters — an incident happens, you go to pull the footage, and there is nothing there. By then the loss has already happened twice: once on the premises, and again when you cannot prove it.

Planned maintenance exists to make that discovery happen on a scheduled visit rather than on your worst day. Everything below gets checked, tested and written down, so the state of your system is a document rather than an assumption.

Already have a system someone else installed?

We will take it on. It is one of the most common calls we get: the company that fitted the system has moved on, stopped answering, or was never local to begin with, and nobody has looked at the equipment in years.

We start with a survey rather than a sales pitch. You get an honest assessment of what is there, what still works, what is genuinely past helping and what simply needs cleaning and configuring properly. Plenty of systems we inherit need far less than the owner feared.

If it is worth maintaining, we will maintain it whoever supplied it. If it is not, we will tell you that too, and price the alternative so you can decide with the numbers in front of you.

What a contract covers, and how it is scoped

Cover is scoped per site rather than sold off a shelf, because a four-camera shop and a monitored multi-site estate do not need the same thing. The variables are how often we visit, how quickly we respond when something breaks, whether monitoring is included, and how parts and callouts are handled.

Every contract includes the checks listed on this page, a written report after each visit, and priority over ad-hoc work when something goes wrong. Tell us what is installed and we will put a specification and a price in writing.

WHAT GETS CHECKED

Every visit, every item, written down.

CCTV maintenance

  • Camera cleaning — lenses, housings and domes
  • Image quality checks, day and night
  • Recording verified — not just the light being on
  • Hard-drive health and remaining capacity
  • Firmware brought up to date
  • Remote access and app viewing confirmed working
  • Time and date accuracy, so footage stands up later
  • Cabling, connectors and terminations inspected

Alarm maintenance

  • Every sensor walk-tested and re-aligned
  • Panel and detector batteries load-tested
  • Sirens and sounders confirmed under real conditions
  • Communications path to monitoring verified
  • App notifications tested end to end
  • Firmware and panel configuration reviewed
COMMON QUESTIONS

Maintenance & Support in Gibraltar — your questions answered.

Will you maintain a system your company did not install?

Yes, and we do it often. We survey what is there first, tell you honestly what is worth keeping, and quote for maintaining it. Being tied to whoever fitted the system originally is not something you should have to accept.

How often should a system be serviced?

Once or twice a year suits most premises. Sites that are dusty, coastal or heavily used benefit from more frequent visits, and some insurers set their own requirement. We will recommend a frequency for your site rather than applying a blanket rule.

Why does CCTV need maintenance at all?

Because the failures are invisible until you need the footage. Lenses dirty, drives fill or fail, firmware drifts, connections corrode and clocks lose accuracy. A recorder can look perfectly healthy while saving nothing usable.

Does maintenance help with insurance?

It often does. Insurers increasingly ask whether alarm and CCTV systems are maintained, and a dated service record is the evidence. Our visit reports are written to be produced if you are ever asked.

What happens if something breaks between visits?

Contract customers get priority over ad-hoc work, and the response time is part of what you agree when the cover is scoped. Where a fault can be diagnosed remotely, we often will before anyone travels.
